I'll look into this, but I'm pretty sure the default (and minimum) sidebar width is set by Firefox, and applies to all of the sidebar applications (bookmarks, history, etc).
I think the only solution is to make the toolbar smaller by removing icons, or making the scan button smaller. I like the way the scan button stands out at the moment, but I'll see what I can do. Again, this probably won't make it into the next release.
