Am I the only one finding this new way of storing the Update Scanner URLs as normal bookmarks a major hassle?
Since Firefox 3+ duplicate bookmarks can't/won't exist in the folder structure. The result of this is that when I tell Update Scanner to keep track of a URL that is already neatly sorted in my bookmark tree, that bookmark is moved to the Update Scanner folder. Needless to say I thought the old way of storing the Update Scanner URLs much better.
Could it not be done some other way, by tagging existing bookmarks with "Update Scanner" or something?
Re: Storing the UpdateScanner pages as normal bookmarks ...
Are you sure? Duplicate bookmarks work fine for me.
Note that drag/drop in firefox moves bookmarks.. it doesn't create a copy. Use copy/paste or load the page, right-click and select "Scan Page for Updates".
Could you post detailed step-by-step instructions of how to recreate this problem?
Re: Storing the UpdateScanner pages as normal bookmarks ...
Hmm.. yes it's seems you are right that duplicate bookmarks can exist. Very sorry about that. I was pretty sure it didn't since it goes against the functionality of the star button that was introduced with Firefox 3.
In Firefox 3+ you have the star button in the location bar for easy bookmark adding and also access to the properties and location of and existing bookmark if the current page is in your bookmarks. This is an extremely useful feature if having a lot of bookmarks in different categories/folders.
The star button-function get a bit confused if there are duplicate bookmarks. Apparently it connects to the last added/modified bookmark among duplicates.
